Transylvania - Peles Castle

After buying coffee from Gregory's coffee shop we got an Uber to Herst car hire. But problems awaited us. I'd paid already on me credit card but they wouldn't accept my South African drivers licence. Luckily we could put a new deposit on Dave's credit card and transfer the booking his name. But now only he can drive.

We put the navigation details in Google maps, and after a few unnecessary laps of the parking lot (we hope there weren't cameras exposing our foolishness) we drove successfuly out the city, on the right hand side of the road

We found Peles castle in Sinaia. Beautiful.

This was the home of King Carol - Romania's first King, who was from Germany.  The Ottomans were ruling and they brought in a King to forge a relationship with Germany. He was a good ruler for over 40 years and we saw the bed he died in, aged 97.
He had a good name (snigger) and was loved by Romanias,

Fake stairway

The beautiful German style reception room

The sword above the "fake" fireplace has chopped off a few gentlemens heads!! Commoners were hanged. The sword had inscribed.. Rewarded with eternal life...  Was supposed to be guaranteed with the sword.

I loved the diving room

Stopping at a Lidl on the way, stocking up on red wine and food, we arrived at our accommodation in Zernesty where a strange looking man met us. He couldn't speak any English but pointed us in the direction of our room.

We are the only guests here so have the place to ourselves. It's very comfortable.

Look what I found in Lidl

I made us tuna mayo on French bread for dinner.
