To Bucharest 16 Feb 2020
16 February 2020 Switzerland to UK to Romania
Tim and I left Evelyn's flat in Kloten at 5:30 in the morning and caught the bus to Zurich airport. Our flight was delayed by about 2 hours due to bad weather in London.
Judy and Richard collected us at the airport and because of the delay I went straight to the train station where I got a train to Bristol. The previous train had been cancelled and poor Dave was convinced we'd miss our flight as the train I was on was showing as cancelled as well. But we made it in time and arrived at Bucharest airport by 9:30 that night.
We got an Uber to our address in the old town, being dropped off at the point where cars can't go any further.
But we couldn't find our hotel. People around were really helpful but it just wasn't showing. Dave called our host and we described the restaurant we were standing at - our accommodation was right there, just not signed. He soon arrived to show us in. The location in Bucharest is perfect but the entrance looked terrible....

Opened to this...
It was obviously grand in it's day, but now totally derelict, yet functional.
There was the original reception desk, but graffiti on the walls. The stairs are chipped, paint falling off the walls and cracked window pains, with a dodgy old lift we squeezed into which felt like we were in a James Bond movie.
Yet the automatic lights switch on when you walk the windey stairs and once in our apartment, everything is neat and functional, hi speed WiFi and TV.
We were happy with the choice; right in the middle of old town with bars and restaurants everywhere and walking distance to all the tourist sites.
We had dinner in a restaurant on our street.
